Peru’s Culture and Cuisine

Peru, land of the Incas, is famous for its majestic Andes mountains and the picturesque ruins of Macchu Picchu. It's also well-known all over the world for its incredibly diverse culture.

In the olden days, many immigrants from Europe, Asia, and West Africa headed to Peru and settled there. They brought with them the traditions, beliefs, and culinary practices of their home countries.

A Melting Pot of International Flavors

Peru's culture today is influenced both by its indigenous native population and by foreign immigrants and settlers. The impact of thousands of years of colonization and immigration is especially evident in Peruvian cuisine.

Lomo saltado, for example, is a beloved Peruvian dish with roots in Chinese cooking.
